What's the Best Way to Get Someone to Fill Out a Form?
When they don't realize it, of course.
One of the big challenges in building this job site was to get information from the users. No one wants to fill out a long form online. The users of this app were most likely to access the site on their cell phones. So how do we get them to not lose interest and abandon sign-up? I studied a lot of dating sites to see how they on-boarded people. Sites like e-Harmony are very good at asking a series of questions that are fun and interesting, more like a conversation than a sign-up form. The user is entertained and engaged instead of bored.
We tried to create the same easy onboarding. We rewarded answering each question by providing more information that would be relevant to the user. Do you want to work in San Francisco? Here's how many tech jobs there are in San Francisco! We also provided context to make it easier to answer the questions. What salary do you want? Here's a graph with the average salary of a Java Developer in San Francisco. Slide the bar to indicate your minimum salary. My challenge from the client was to limit typing as much as possible. Every question should be answered with a tap or a swipe.
